Daaem Engineering Organizes a Specialized Training Workshop: From Field Surveying to Smart Reconstruction

12 Jan 2026

As part of our commitment at Daaem Engineering to supporting the reconstruction process and promoting the adoption of modern engineering codes, we organized— in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and the Syrian Engineers Syndicate— a specialized training workshop entitled “From Field Survey to Smart Reconstruction”. The workshop was delivered by civil engineer Anas Abdulmalik Al‑Akhras, a graduate of Damascus University and holder of a Master’s degree from the United States of America, and was hosted in the Civil Engineering Faculty auditorium at Damascus University.

Workshop Highlights

The workshop focused on a range of scientific and practical topics that form the foundation of modern engineering practice, including:

• The American Concrete Institute (ACI) Code: A globally recognized reference, with clarification of the distinction between codes and standards.

• Damage Survey and Assessment Methodologies: A practical case study on the city of Darayya, covering surveys of approximately 5,000 buildings and documentation of around 15,000 cases, along with training for engineers from Damascus and Darayya on damage assessment methodologies.

• Repairing and Strengthening Techniques: Presentation of advanced solutions using carbon fiber, supported by practical examples from projects implemented in the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

• Structural Safety Verification: Demonstrations of applied methods to ensure quality and safety.

• Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Reconstruction: Explanation of how modern applications can enhance accuracy and efficiency in survey and assessment processes.

Key remarks

The President of the Syrian Engineers Syndicate, engineer Malek Haj Ali, emphasized that the Syndicate is a fundamental partner in academic and professional work, supporting initiatives that raise the scientific and professional standards of engineers— particularly young engineers and engineering students— as they represent the cornerstone of the reconstruction phase.

Engineer Anas Al‑Akhras highlighted that the workshop represents a crucial step in establishing sound scientific foundations for reconstruction, stressing that familiarity with the ACI Code directly improves design and execution quality, especially since the Syrian Code reflects a partial translation of its engineering philosophy.

DAM Engineering is Committed to Smart Reconstruction

Organizing this workshop reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting engineering competencies and applying the latest global codes and modern technologies to reconstruction projects.
